SHEIKH FAISAL BIN QASSIM | AL RAYYAN | QATAR

Sheik Faisal Bin Qassim Al-Thani Museum is located 14 miles away from Doha, the capital of Qatar and sits on a large parcel of land. The museum itself is an architectural beauty, a desert fortress, built with local stone and sculpted wooden doors. A museum that treasures over 15 000 artifacts.

Through company Show Canada, Pageau Design was asked to design multiple infrastructures and elements to enhance the museum experience. Every element had to celebrate Qatar culture heritage.

We have proposed an operable dome to act as an enclosure for an existing exterior amphitheater which would offer a controlled environment for shows and events.

We have also elaborated a design study to provide operational access bridge to connect to an antique Qatari ship located in a large existing water basin, that would appear as a sculpture when not in use.

To provide proper shade for patrons’ automobiles during the day, we proposed transformable awnings that act as sculptural lanterns in the evenings and do not detract from existing architecture.

Also at night, we have created projections to enhance the cultural significance of Qatar’s landmark museum.

To top it all up, we have proposed a design study for upgrading equestrian stable and arena of the Sheik’s prized horses, that would provide protection from the elements.
